What is Red Light Therapy?

Updated: Jan 13

Red Light Therapy is a non-invasive, drug-free way to relieve existing pain and support the body’s natural healing. Red light therapy often includes both visible Red and invisible Infrared light. The two wavelengths or colors of light work similarly. Both Red and Infrared Light produces a wide range of beneficial effects on the body and supports the body’s repair and regeneration of nerves and tissues. Pain relief can often be immediate right after a therapy session.

How Red Light Therapy Works

Red Light Therapy relieves pain, but it also stimulates and accelerates the body’s own innate healing. When a Light Therapy Pad is placed on the body, photons of light are released which induces cascades of beneficial biochemical processes within the cells. Light Therapy works by increasing ATP (adenosine triphosphate) synthesis in the mitochondria, activating the electron transport systems and many other biochemical reactions in the tissues. Nitric oxide, the body’s vasodilator, is released, which increases circulation, so that blood rich with oxygen and nutrients can now flow more freely into nerves, muscles, joints, and other tissues within that local area and accelerate the body’s natural healing processes.

Safe and Easy

Red Light Therapy has been found to be risk-free and can be administered without concern for harmful side effects. According to Dr. Michael R. Hamblin, Red Light Therapy has been proven to have “…an almost complete lack of reported adverse effects.”
